Job Description
In addition to our August 2014 roles, we currently have immediate start vacancies in our London Financial Services Tax and Employer Solutions divisions.
Our clients look to us not only to save money, but also to ensure they are operating within the law. Working in the tax team, it's about interpreting complex legislation and delivering solutions in a way that the client understands. Tax is a cost to their business and we, at Grant Thornton, are here to operate efficiently, to manage that.
We hire trainees into several different specialised areas of tax: Tax Investigations, Entrepreneurial & Private Client Services, VAT, Financial Services, Financial Planning, Employer Solutions, Property Tax, Property and Transfer Pricing and Large International Tax. We currently have roles available in the following locations:
Birmingham - Personal Tax
London (Immediate start) - Employer Solutions and Tax Investigations
London (Autumn 2014 start) - Employer Solutions, VAT
Manchester - VAT, Tax Investigations. Please note for both of these roles you would study for the CTA qualification
Manchester - Research & Development. Please note that this is a specialist technical role and requires candidates to have a degree in either a science, technology or engineering discipline.
Milton Keynes - Large International Tax

What you'll be doing
When you start as a graduate trainee, you will start off learning the basics; carrying out technical research, producing tax computations, advising clients on their tax requirements and negotiating with HM Revenue & Customs. As you gain more experience, you will then be able to move into the challenging world of consultancy.
You will be expected to:
- assist clients with their tax compliance regulations
- complete tax returns and computations
- liaise with tax authorities, third parties and clients where appropriate
- provide support on planning projects and research technical issues such as
asset/business sales, succession planning and non-residence issues
- establish good working relationships with colleagues and clients
Education and Qualifications
Strong academics essential. As well as academic success we're looking for interesting candidates who can show that they've done some great things within their personal and professional lives too. We're looking for well-rounded candidates who connect with our brand, values and culture and want to make a difference right from the start.
Other interesting information
As a graduate trainee as part of the tax team, you will be studying for your ACA or CTA qualification. You'll need to balance a busy client portfolio with revision, study and classes. Being professionally qualified is your ticket to going anywhere within the business and unlock potential for the dynamic organisations we work with.
