Future Leaders Programme IT
Do you have a passion for technology? Do you want to work at the heart of business transformation projects that will help us to better deliver life-enhancing healthcare? If so, our IT Graduate Programme may be for you.
What's it all about?
IT within GSK exists to bring compliance, globalisation, productivity, customer service and innovation to our operations. It is about utilising technology as part of our strategic journey to deliver life-enhancing healthcare that enables people to do more, feel better and live longer. Our three-year rotational IT graduate programme aims to turn highly talented graduates into our future business leaders. Our rotations will give you a broad understanding of our key business areas and the essential role that technology has to play in our global strategy.
Do I have the skills?
We are looking for graduates with a 2.1 degree (or equivalent) in Business Studies/Management, Engineering or Science. You should have strong communication skills and,be passionate about working in a collaborative team environment. We are looking for people who are analytical, conceptual and who have the discipline to lead by example. Our IT graduates will work on a variety of different projects throughout the programme so it is also important that you have a flexible and objectives driven working style.
What will the programme be like?
From day 1 you will take part in a comprehensive induction programme, which is designed to kick start your professional development and give you a depth of functional expertise to position you to contribute and deliver in your early days with us. You will receive a comprehensive grounding on GSK and its ways of working, along with a thorough understanding of our skills framework.
Beyond this, you will gain detailed functional training, combined with an in-depth business process overview, which will then allow you to work within our day-to-day delivery, service and deployment streams.
Over the course of the programme you will gain broad functional experience to help you to build up detailed knowledge of IT and develop skills in leadership, influencing and negotiation. You will work on numerous project deployment cycles which will help to build your skills in business process re-engineering and project management.
Throughout this you will have direct engagement with key leaders and can count on a solid support network. This will include a programme sponsor, your graduate programme manager and line managers, alumni, a buddy and, of course, other graduates on the scheme.
Where can I go?
The support network that you build will continue long after you finish the programme. Many IT graduate programme alumni are still with us after more than 10 years and some have become vice presidents or directors.
Although you will be primarily based in our West London sites, this is a global programme and you may be working on global projects. This means you may get the chance to visit, or work in, any one of our programme locations depending on the project you’re working on, so the flexibility to travel is important.
What will I learn?
Your rotation process will ensure that you are in the right position to develop to your full potential. The rotations will be diverse and challenging, providing you with a high level of responsibility.
Training and development is specific to rotations. Our courses are designed to develop specific skill sets and enable you to deliver real benefits to the business. Personal development courses may cover presentation, influencing and interviewing skills.

Meet our graduates
Name Year of programme Uni attended, degree studied.
Fatema 2011 King’s College London
Computer Science with Management
I am now nearly two years into the IT Graduate Programme scheme and it’s been an enjoyable time and a steep learning curve to say the least! I began the scheme in September 2011 and am now on my third role rotation.
My first role was as a Service Management Analyst as part of a team that delivers an eLearning training service to all GSK employees. The team were the most warm and welcoming group of people and no doubt, this brilliant community inspired me to ask questions and certainly made me want to learn more about IT and how it impacts GSK’s business operations.
For my second rotation, I was keen to be close to the Consumer Healthcare business and understand how GSK makes critical decisions in a dynamic and fast paced industry.
I was fortunate to find a role of Business Analyst on a project which was looking at the consolidation of a business reporting tool which was a key driver in the business’s sales strategy. Being in a pressurised and ever changing environment, my development was majorly accelerated.
Reflecting on my experience so far, I’m pleased at how I’ve progressed, grown and developed my skill set over just 2 years. The scheme has given me the opportunity to acquire formal qualifications in Service Management and Project Management, and through on the job development I have been able to identify my strengths, development areas, and what really drives and challenges me day to day. It’s been brilliant to be part of an established graduate network and I look forward to greater experiences on the scheme in my remaining year!
