The graduates we recruit into Audit each year train to become chartered accountants.We’ll support you through your exams, this usually takes three years.
What is an External Auditor?
An external auditor performs independent, third party reviews ofthe financial records of a company. The Auditor evaluates accounting, payroll and purchasing records as well as any documents related to investments, stocks or loans. The job of an auditor is to provide an accurate, unbiased analysis of the company's financial condition.
The objectivity of an external auditor is imperative to be successful. No connection to the company is permitted, as it may be construed as biasing the auditor's report. This detachment generally means the external auditor cannot be a friend or relative of an owner, manager or employee. The external auditor must not hold shares in the company or have any monetary stake in any of their subsidiaries or holdings.
To be fair and equitable, an external auditor should familiarise themselves with the nature of the business they are auditing prior to starting the assignment. For example, service industries and consumer goods companies have markedly different expenses as well as disparate methods of calculating profits and losses. Being aware of these differences is important for the external auditors conclusions to be accurate and constructive.
Businesses often depend on an external auditor to be their financial judge and jury. The external auditor’s findings strongly influence the company's reputation in both the private and public sectors.
What sort of person makes a good Auditor?
Having principles and working by them;
Being independent of mind because the job is to make sure that accounts are truthful;
Having an eye for detail: Understanding accounting practices is important – but audit is about how they are applied too; and
Thorough and diligent, because audit is Regulated.

Training scheme
TheACAand CA* qualifications are two of the leading business and finance qualifications. They are internationally recognised and valued across the globe both in the private and public sector. The career of a chartered accountant is a varied and interesting one, and either qualification will provide you with the skills to be a successful business professional anywhere in the world.
*If you work in one of our Scottish offices you will study towards the CA qualification.
You will spend time away from the office to attend classes for tuition and revision stages of each exam. The classroom taught approach means that you will have the support of your peers and valuable study time for your exams.
What we look for
We want driven professional individuals who excel at working with others, who have the ability to communicate at a high level and who share the same values as Mazars. Alongside this you must be able to demonstrate analytical skills, commitment, drive, commercial awareness, flexibility and creativity.
Academic requirements
We look for candidates who can demonstrate a strong academic track record.
You will have achieved, or be on course to achieve, at least a 2.1 in your degree, although the subject of your degree is not important.
You’ll need at least 280 UCAS points (to have achieved in the same academic year, from yourbest 3 ALevels and excluding General Studies).
We also look for Grade B or above in GCSE English Language and Maths.
If there were extenuating circumstances that affected your result(s), please tell us in your application formso we can consider whether we take them into account.
Closing dates for applications
We do not have a closing date for our vacancies, so you can apply all year round. However, competition is high so we would advise that you applyas early as you can.
